It looks like to me that arguments for not debating on the forum are A) things might be misinterpreted, but like it�s been pointed out: no matter what you�re discussing or where there is always room for people to misunderstand. It might as well be here, and if someone really gets out of line and offends someone or something is really unreasonably mistaken this is a place where people can go back and look at what was said later and figure out what was really meant or other group members can intervene and help clear things up. This is a perfect atmosphere to develop our communication skills, where when someone falls the whole group can not only set things straight but learn to communicate more effectivly. The second argument is B) this could potentially cause trouble in the group. I choose to look at it this way: no good thing comes without its price, there are a lot of good things out there that are attached with the risk of people getting hurt, but should we really stop a potentially really good thing because we�re scared a couple of people might be offended? I think that qualifies as throwing the baby out with the bathwater. In my opinion its good to be able to get a bearing now on where individuals stand on controversial things, it reduces the risk of things getting ugly or out of hand in person as well. I don�t know about the rest of you but I know I�ve been offended a few times on bus ride debates; maybe this will help us to be more sensitive. Just a thought.
