Hey Pitsters -
Those of you playing four mallets have been asked to learn "Solfeggietto", page 90 out of Nancy's Book. The sticking for the first 4 bars stays the same as the first measure (using mostly mallets 2 and 4, with mallet 1 playing the bottom note of the arpeggio). Starting in bar 5, the type of arpeggio and sticking changes, but is clearly notated. USE ALL WRITTEN STICKINGS! The only sticking change occurs in bar 7, where I find it more natural to stick both of the "down stemmed" notes with mallet 2. The down beat of bar 9 is a good stopping point, as the next phrase goes below the range of our marimbas. However, we may learn all the way up to bar 17 at some point (taking that chunk up an octave) so you may want to be looking at that as well.
Learn it very SLOWLY, with a metronome on, and work on getting to notes before you play them (shifting!) Also keep in mind phrase markings and what that will do to emphasis and weight. Any questions, post under this topic or email me directly. Good luck and have fun!
Seth
