This is certainly true, but suppose Ed does get Carol, then what? Perhaps a wedding. Kids? Parenthood? Retirement?

The whole show revolves around Ed coming back to Stuckyville. The way I understand it, he came back to rediscover himself and win back *The* girl. There's just so much that can be done.

It makes sense to want them to get together -- but we should also be aware that we're wishing the show end, too.

Another user pointed out something very salient; it's impossible to build a long running (I mean 5+ season) sitcom on two key characters. Its time for others to bud and flower.

To be honest, I had written this show off for a while -- I just didn't understand how Dennis & Carol suddenly because so serious. It almost felt like I had missed a few episodes (I hadn't, I checked.)

I'm hooked back now. At last a degree of realism.
