Subject: The body as a living sacrifice

Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship.

Romans 12:1

As a competitive bodybuilder, or someone who likes bodybuilding or just as a fitness competitor, we take our bodies serious. We are the exception. The problem is when we make our bodies the object of our worship.

In order to keep our focus on the Lord, we must continually offer our body as a living sacrifice. It can become our God if we are not careful and we begin to worship the creation and not the creator.

Just like God asked Abraham to place Issac on the sacrifical alter, we are asked to do the same with our body. Abraham had always wanted a son, badly wanted a son, and when he finally got one, he was very happy. So much so, that God wanted him to keep his love for his son in check and make sure that Abraham did not worship the son, but rather worship the Father. So God the Father asked Abraham to place his pride and joy on the alter and Abraham did. But the great thing here is that Abraham knew that if he did go through with the sacrifice, that God could raise Issac from the dead.

Are we willing to place our body on the sacrificial alter and give our body to Christ for Him to use? Do we dare give to Him the very thing we have worked so hard for to improve and make healthy? If we don't the I fear that the worst.

As one pastor said, if we withold the tithe, God will take back everything. We cannot be selfish with what God has given us. We must give Him not only the tithe, but we must give Him everything trusing Him to care for it the way it is suppose to be cared for.

Bodybuilding is good and can be used for the Glory of the Lord. Afterall, this is HIS temple in which He lives, is it not? So why not provide Him with the best accomidations possible? Just remember, if He lives there, He wants to go places. SO you may just have to go into the world and tell somebody about Jesus. You are a missionary. But it might just be next door, instead of a foreign country. But either way, be ready in an out of season, just like a good bodybuilder.

May the Lord bless all the work of your hand.
