Subject: Destiny Part 1

Hello everyone! It has been a long time since I've been to the board, college can do that to a person. I've started
working on a fanfic entitled Destiny. I'm going to post the frist chapter and you can respond and tell me what you
think. I'm not sure how long this story is going to be, we will see what happens. So here is chapter 1 of Destiny.

Background: This story takes place a year after Ali’s lawsuit against the hospital. After Mike and Carrie’s affair came
out, Mike decided to leave Salem in order to protect the hospital’s reputation. Carrie and Austin were working on a
divorce, when Mickey discovered that they didn’t need one. Austin and Carrie’s marriage was invalid, because the
license that they used had expired before their wedding. Carrie was anxious to tell Mike the news, but discovered that
he had already left Salem. She tried contacting him but Mike was so overridden with gilt he shunned himself from
everyone in Salem. When Carrie was offered a job in San Francisco doing PR for Marin County Hospital, she
decided to take it. Despite the resistance of her family and friends she knew that she needed to move on with her life.

Eric has just recently left Salem to go back to Colorado. However, he did not leave on the same terms as he did in
the show. For the purposes of this story, he did not sleep with Nicole. However, Greta thinks he did. After the car
accident(just like the show) he decided to leave because he had hurt too many people. He is still in love with Greta
though.

Also in this story I will be introducing some new characters. The reason for this is because I am getting tired of Days
and I’d like to take my own spin on things. The other characters will still be in this story, but the main focus of this
story is Mike and Carrie, Eric and Greta and the new characters I will be introducing. So that said, enjoy the story!

Part 1

Carrie’s Apt.
San Francisco, CA

Carrie sighed as she thought about the conversation she had just had with Eric. ‘Poor guy has really been through a
lot,’ she thought. Upon Eric’s recommendation, Carrie decided to take a little trip to Colorado to visit her brother.
She had already okayed it with her boss. Now she needed to talk to Kaitlin. Carrie smiled as she thought about her
friend. Kaitlin Mattingly lived in Carrie’s apartment building. She was young, fresh out of college, and just started
working as a teacher in San Francisco. Kaitlin was a music teacher. She had a beautiful voice. She and Carrie had hit
it off from the very beginning. Kaitlin was there with Carrie when Carrie found out the news that would change her
life. Carrie thought back to that day…

Flashback:

It had been a month since Carrie had left Salem and she was finally getting adjusted to her new life in San Francisco.
She had met a great girl, Kaitlin, and they had become friends. Carrie had been feeling ill for awhile, so upon the
advice of her friend she decided to see a doctor. Kaitlin waited in the hospital waiting room while Carrie was in her
check-up. Carrie remembered sitting in the doctor’s office, wondering if she had caught something serious. Then the
Dr. Barnett walked in the room with the results.

Carrie looked up. "What is it? Is it bad?" The Dr. Barnett laughed. "Well most people don’t think of this as a bad
thing but there have been a few occasions where people weren’t pleased with this news." Carrie eyed the doctor.
"Congratulations, you’re pregnant." The words hit Carrie like a brick. "Pregnant?" she whispered. Dr. Barnett smiled.
"Judging by the test results I’d say you’re two months along." Carrie’s mind flashed back to two months ago. ‘Las
Vegas,’ she thought. ‘This is Mike’s child.’ The thought made her smile. After hearing the news she knew she should
try and get a hold of Mike. But no one knew where he was. Carrie decided to keep the information to herself. Kaitlin
was the only one that knew she had a baby.

Present:
Carrie was awakened from her thoughts when she heard a knock on the door. Carrie looked at the sleeping child
next to her. Colleen Grace she had decided to name her. Carrie opened the door to see a short, brown-haired,
brown eyed girl staring at her. "Hi! You said you wanted to see me?" Kaitlin asked. Carrie nodded. "Come in, sit
down. Can I get you anything to drink?" Kaitlin sat down on the couch and looked at Colleen asleep in her bassinet.
"No thanks. I know you have something on your mind, so go ahead and spill it." Carrie smiled. That was one thing she
liked at Kaitlin. She was always straight to the point. She wouldn’t let you get away with not telling her things.

"Well I got a phone call from my brother Eric today." Carrie started. "He would like me to visit him in Colorado next
week. The poor guy has been through a lot and really needs someone to talk to." Kaitlin nodded. "So you’re asking
me if I can take care of Colleen for you, right?" Kaitlin replied. Carrie’s mouth dropped open. "Kaitlin, I swear, you
can read me like a book." Kaitlin laughed. "Well people have told me before that I am psychic." They both laughed.
"So will you take care of her for me? It should only be a few days." Carrie stated. Kaitlin smiled. "Of course. You
know how much I love your daughter. I can’t wait to have one of my own." Kaitlin’s mind drifted.

Carrie’s voice got serious. "Kaitlin, I know you’re worried that you will never meet the perfect guy. But you are a
wonderful, caring, beautiful person. Any guy who doesn’t want you is a fool." Kaitlin smiled. "That’s nice of you to
say Carrie. But I can’t help thinking that I’ve already met him and let him slip away…but enough about that. I know
you need some sleep, and I’ve got a class to teach tomorrow so I will talk to you tomorrow and we can work out
details for next week." Carrie smiled. "Okay, I will give you a call tomorrow."

As Kaitlin shut the door Carrie couldn’t help but think what it was that Kaitlin wouldn’t share with her. ‘Something
must have happened to her,’ Carrie thought. Carrie shook the thought from her mind and decided to call it a night.

University Hospital
Salem, USA

Lexie Carver was reading one of her patient’s charts when she felt someone put their hands over her eyes. "Guess
who?" a male voice asked. He let his hands go and Lexie turned around to face none other than Michael Horton,
MD. "Mike!" she exclaimed as she threw her arms around her friend. "How are you?" she asked. Mike laughed. "I’m
doing all right, how about you?" Lexie smiled. "Abe and I are doing great. As you can see, we’re expecting a child
very shortly." Mike smiled. "I’m so happy for you Lex. I know how much having a baby means to you and Abe."

"Thank you Mike. Abe and I are happy. I’m about ready for this thing to pop though." Lexie replied. Mike laughed.
"It won’t be much longer." He said. Lexie turned serious. "Mike, what brings you back?" Mike sighed. "I received a
call from Winston and Lewis. They urged me to come back as chief of staff. Apparently Dr. Craig Wesley hasn’t
made much of an impression on the public of Salem and Winston and Lewis really wanted me to come back. I figured
that it was time I came back to Salem."

Lexie smiled. "Well I’m glad to have you back. Working alongside Craig has not been exactly a piece of cake." Mike
laughed. "My colleague can be very hard to get along with." Lexie turned to Mike. "Mike, have you talked to Carrie?"
Mike turned away. "Why do you ask Lexie?" Lexie put her hand on Mike’s shoulder. "Because I’m a friend, and I
can still see the love in your eyes for her. You know she tried to get a hold of you - after she and Austin found out
they weren’t really married."

Mike turned around with surprise. "What?" he asked. "When Austin filed for divorce Mickey discovered that they
didn’t need one. Apparently no one ever checked to see if their marriage license was valid. It had expired before they
got married." Lexie explained.

Mike couldn’t believe it. All of this time he could have been with Carrie. He berated himself for locking himself away
from everyone. "Lex, have you heard from Carrie?" Mike asked. Lexie looked at Mike. She could see the pain in his
eyes. He knew he had hurt her and himself. Lexie hoped that Mike and Carrie would be able to find their way back
to each other. "Mike, no one has heard from Carrie for a long time. She accepted a job out west shortly after you
left."

Just then Lexie’s beeper went off. Lexie looked down. "Mike, I’ve got to check on a patient. We can talk more later.
Welcome back!" With that she was off. Mike looked around the familiar sights of the hospital. ‘God, please help me
find her. Please bring her to me.’ Mike prayed.

Chloe, Phillip, Belle and Shawn had decided to go on a double date. They were sitting at a table enjoying their coffee
when a dark, curly haired young man walked into the café. He was kind of on the short side, and had the deepest
brown eyes that Belle had ever seen. Both Chloe and Belle were fixed on this stranger. "Who is that?" Belle said
aloud. Shawn and Phillip eyed each other. "I’ve never seen him before. He must be new to town." Shawn replied.
Belle and Chloe continued to stare as he ordered his coffee. He turned around and noticed the girls staring at him. He
flashed them a brilliant smile and Belle and Chloe turned away.

Phillip turned to Chloe. "You know, I thought we were on a date." Chloe was still off in a daze. "What?" she replied.
Phillip looked at Shawn. "You know, we’re going to miss the movie. We’d better go." Shawn stated. Reluctantly the
girls got up and followed their beaus out the door. The continued to stare at this stranger until they left the café.

The guy behind the counter looked at the stranger. "Man, those girls were staring at your hard core." He turned
around. "Really?" he asked. The guy behind the counter nodded. "I don’t think I’ve seen you around before. My
name’s Clark Porter." He stuck out his hand and they shook hands. "Jonathan Daley. And you’re right, I’m not from
around here." Clark smiled. "I thought so. What brings you here to Salem?"

"Job mainly. I’m a song writer but right now I just don’t have the money to get to New York to try and work on that.
When I was in college I did an internship for Sony. They gave me a call stating that they had a job for me. Not in
Salem of course. I couldn’t find an apartment in the city, so I chose Salem because it was only a 30 minute drive to
work." Jonathan explained. Clark smiled. "Well best of luck to you man. I’m warning you though, Salem is an
interesting place." Jonathan looked at his watch. "I gotta run, I have to work on a project for work. Thanks for the
chat, I’ll see you around." With that Jonathan left.

Lily, one of Clark’s co-workers turned to Clark. "Who was that?" she asked. Clark sighed. ‘How does he do it?’ he
thought. He turned to Lily. "Don’t worry about him, I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of him." Lily smiled. "I hope
so."

Eric’s Apt.
Colorado

"I’m so glad you were able to come and visit." Eric said as he and Carrie walked through the door. Carrie smiled.
"Eric it’s been a long time. I’m glad I came." Eric set Carrie’s luggage down. "Would you like something to drink?" he
asked. Carrie smiled. "No thanks, just point out where I should put my stuff." Eric showed her the guest room and
Carrie unpacked a few things. When she returned to the den she noticed Eric was staring at a photo. ‘Please tell me
it’s not a photo of him and Nicole,’ Carrie thought. Carrie knew that something had happened between him and
Nicole and that because of it, he was here in Colorado, but that was all she knew. She walked up behind Eric and
looked at the photo. It was of him and Greta. Carrie tapped Eric on the shoulder. "Eric?"

Eric jumped and turned around to face Carrie. "Carrie! You scared me!" Eric exclaimed. "Sorry. I just thought you
looked like you needed to talk." Carrie replied. Eric sighed. "You’re right." Eric replied. Carrie motioned for him to sit
down and they began to discuss the recent events of Eric’s life. Eric told Carrie all about him and Greta and him and
Nicole. Even how Nicole faked having cancer to try and win him back, even thought she was still married to Lucas.

Carrie make a face. "Eric that woman is…I don’t even know how to describe it. She’s just plain despicable! She
obviously does not care about who she hurts, just as long as she gets her way." Eric nodded. "You’re right. I just wish
Greta could have seen that I feel that way too." Eric sighed. Carrie looked at Eric. "Eric, if Greta loves you she will
understand. You have to go back to Salem and talk to her. You can’t just run away from this situation over one
misunderstanding. Nicole knows that you aren’t coming back to her right?" Carrie asked.

Eric nodded. "I told her before I left that nothing was going to happen between us. I’m not quite sure that she
accepted it though." Carrie frowned. "Eric did you even try to explain things to Greta?" Eric sighed. "I did, but she
wouldn’t let me talk to her. Carrie she thinks I slept with Nicole. I could see the pain in her eyes. It killed me. I
couldn’t stay in Salem."

Just then the phone rang. "I better get that." Eric jumped up and grabbed the phone. "Hello…Sami, hi!…how are
you?…good…oh, I see…well congratulations….when?…that soon?…oh, I see…well I suppose I have no way of
getting out of it do I?…(laughs)…I don’t know Sami…I’ll try okay?…Listen, I’ll call you back tomorrow and we can
work out the details okay?…Tell Austin I said congratulations as well…Love you too…Bye." Eric hung up the
phone.

Carrie looked at Eric questioningly. "What was that about?" she asked. Eric looked at Carrie. "That was Sami, of
course. She called to invite me to her wedding. Actually to tell me that I had to come to her wedding." Eric replied.
"Sami and Austin?" Carrie asked. Eric nodded. "I’m sorry Carrie…" Eric began. "Sorry? I’m not. I knew it would
happen someday. I suppose they want me to come as well." Eric nodded. "When is the wedding?" Carrie asked.
"That’s the catch. It’s next week."

"Next week!" Carrie exclaimed. "That’s awfully quick." Eric nodded in agreement. "I didn’t really get a chance to ask
her why. She was just so excited." Carrie thought. "I guess I don’t have an excuse for not going do I?" Carrie asked.
Eric shook his head. "Well it looks like you and I will be going back to Salem sooner than we thought." Carrie stated.

‘There’s no way I can get out of bringing Colleen to Salem. I’m going to have to call Kaitlin.’ Carrie thought. "Eric
can I use your phone?" Eric nodded. "Go ahead, I’m going to go grab us something for dinner." With that, he was out
the door. ‘Good,’ Carrie thought. ‘I need to talk to Kaitlin in private.’

To be continued…
