Stumbled upon this blog after reading a CNN article ridiculing the pageant industry. After reading a handful of entries I am appalled that I breathe the same air as my fellow posters. What I'm so interested to hear is what does the Miss Connecticut Organization do to promote a serious Miss America contestant? Clearly not enough as every year contestant after contestant fail to to be taken seriously in the overall outcome of the big show. The organization is basically a joke, paying the winner of the pageant a measly 5,000 dollars in scholarship money. Has anyone from the Miss Connecticut Pageant association looked at the price of a college tuition in America. 5,000 dollars will cover the price of one class at a public university. Yet, in reading a handful of posts it is evident fellow bloggers demand their Miss Connecticut to entirely devote their lives to this organization, and for what? I'd like pose another question if I were to offer 5,000 for any of you to dedicate your lives to me who would be smart enough to accept? I guess that could be anyone of you considering the lack of intelligence I have stumbled upon. For the future it would be in the best interest of you all to wake up to the world and smell the coffee, the pageant industry is a laughing stock of the educated world, producing nothing for society but a small handful of successful females, and a whole boat load of jealous individuals putting themselves on a false pedestal. I do have to say that I and disappointed in myself for spending five minutes writing this but unlike some of you I can honestly say I've only waisted ten minutes of my life and not years.

I don't think it's comical as much as tragic. The girls spend more on their competition attire than what they receive in scholarships; especially on the local level. Back in 1988 and 1989, the Miss Connecticut winner received $4,000.00; the fact it's only gone up $1,000.00 in more than 20 years is appalling, but they need to ask businesses to contribute to raise the amount. Still, some girls come from wealthy backgrounds and simply want the opportunity to compete at/for Miss America; they aren't competing FOR the scholarship money.Mod
