That comes from the walkthrough narrative in which the game is told from Zak's perspective. It came with the original hint book for Zak, and was reproduced in the manual for the LucasArts Classic Adventure Game Pack. It says, and I quote:

"I hate my job.
My name is Zak McKracken. Well, actually, it's Francis Zachary McKracken. Junior. But you can call me Zak. Go right ahead; everyone else does."
