A name was a thief’s identity undercover, and was not normally given easily to strangers, but Ice cared little if her name was known. In fact, she preferred people to know who she was –they could live in the memory of her success. Moreover, it mattered little if others knew her name; after all, it was only a simple nickname, not one that could cause her much trouble in the future. Ice would have been much more hesitant to give away her true identity, but…that had not been the case.
The thief figure it would be best to let the men before her underestimate her skill at thievery, something she had practically mastered before learning to walk or speak. It was a skill –a trade, taught to her by the gang of street-smart boys she had grown up with. Ice cared little of what they thought –she had come in order to do business, not worry about their petty comments.
She watched Geh carefully; her slate colored eyes stared with cat-like precision and interest as he focused on her, yet she remained as passive and unreadable as possible. She ignored his first comment; since when did jumping to conclusions help anyone, especially when the one assuming things knew nothing of those who stood before him.
His quick movements with the dirk neither impressed nor surprised Ice, and she stood calmly and quietly before Geh without any acknowledgement of his little trick. It was not unusual for thieves to be rapid with their hands, and movements in general, so Ice thought nothing of it.
At only eighteen, Ice was rather young too, but she had the skills the other thieves would need. However, she would mention her talents once the moment arose for her to announce the ways in which she could assist the thieves –that is, if she chose to stay.
“And how do you intend to do that?” Ice quizzed Geh nonchalantly, testing him with great caution. It was obvious that she had begun to judge him, and it showed throughout her body language and alertness. If the man attempted to do the things he truly claimed he would, then Ice wanted proof that he was capable of handling the job at hand…she would not work alongside with someone who could not hold his end of the bargain.
