There's been some developments with the celebrity tax issues.
I'll try to explain the following in a way that all
Regine fans will be able to understand.
The new B.I.R. Commissioner may have been able to notice
there is something afoot because he made a major change
of procedure there that no one can make any more media
tax-evading charges without his involvement.
He now needs to be informed. And anyone there making any
kind of business/financial tax-review on taxpayers needs
the Commissioner's signature on the paperwork first
before it can happen.
Also there was a statement made by the B.I.R.person who
was involve in filing that false tax-evading charges against
the song bird and Juday. She was trying to justify their
reasons why up to now there was no formal charges made
against them and the others but it was a not a very good
excuse. So not surprisingly there is a clamour from the
finance department (and a biting statement from the Justice
department) that is demanding action and some immediate
results in those tax cases.
So a conclusion -
Someone is stuck between a rock and a hard place because
if they file a real case against Regine or Juday then they
risk being exposed. But they have to file something against
somebody soon (among the 30 who been charged under that
R.A.T.E program) because of the public and political
pressures they are being pressed with. ( For more info

In the war on propaganda, perception is everything.
It does not matter whether what is being peddled is
true or false since, as Nazi Minister for Propaganda,
Joseph Goebbles said, "a lie repeated many times
will be accepted as the truth." Weeks of Senate and
Congressional hearings on the jueteng payoffs and the
alleged wiretapped conversation between President
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Comelec Commissioner
Virgilio Garcillano have taken its toll on President
Arroyo's popularity and the nation's credit rating.
Except perhaps for the indefatigable Dept. of
Environment and Natural Resources Secretary, Mike
Defensor, who is doing a yeoman's job, the government
has been doing a poor job of presenting its side to
the people. Thus, it is not surprising why the latest
Pulse Asia survey showed a record low 12 percent
satisfaction rating for President Arroyo.
The government, belatedly realizing its shortcomings,
has tapped the services of Secretaries Claudio,
Tiglao, Saludo and Gonzales, among others, to
articulate the views of Malacanang. Presidential
Spokeman Bunye has hooked up more often with
provincial radio and TV stations on important
Malacanang press conferences to give the people in the
provinces, as opposed to the people in Metro Manila, a
more balanced view of the current state of affairs.
It is probably little comfort to President Arroyo that
when the impeachment trial begins, the rules of court
and the rules of evidence will take precedence over
attempts by the Opposition to grandstand and impress
the public with sophistry--subtly deceptive reasoning
or argumentation.

Gov't Tax News Update: Govt tax effort drops to
single-digit level / Manila Times 8/2/2005
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue’s tax effort has dropped to
single-digit last year, the first time in the last 11 years,
after the bureau missed its tax-collection goal.
The bureau last year collected P468 million in revenues, rising
9.90 percent from P426 million in 2003. Despite this growth,
the agency failed to achieve its revenue goal of P476.3 billion
last year.

Pres. Arroyo Hits Back at Cory over Quit Call
President Arroyo on Monday reminded former President Corazon Aquino
that during her presidency her resignation was also asked by coup
plotters but she did not quit.
In an exclusive interview with Korina Sanchez over ABS-CBN News
Channel, Mrs. Arroyo said: "With all due respect to her (Mrs.
Aquino), in the nine coup d' etats, her resignation was also
demanded, but she stayed put."
The President said she felt sorry that her relationship with Mrs.
Aquino was severed by the current political crisis.
"I'm really sorry that it happened. That's all I can say," Mrs.
Arroyo said.
She added: "We don't become president to enjoy. We have to be
willing to sacrifice and suffer, if need be," Mrs. Arroyo said
referring to Mrs. Aquino's request for her to "make the ultimate
sacrifice."
On June 8, Mrs. Aquino joined the call for the President to step
down amid allegations that she rigged her way to the presidency.
After Mrs. Aquino's withdrawal of support from President Arroyo,
some members of the Liberal Party led by Senate President Franklin
Drilon also called for the President to resign.
Earlier in the day, 10 members of Arroyo's Cabinet announced their
resignation and also urged the President to step down.

"Kris Aquino to Settle Libel Case vs GMA-7 Executive "

Actress Kris Aquino is willing to settle the P80-million libel case
she filed against GMA 7 executives in 2003, ABS-CBN News learned
Monday.
Aquino met with former GMA 7 public relations official Ma. Teresa
Defensor and vice president for communications Alfonso Raquel at a
pretrial hearing of the case at the Makati Regional Trial Court on
Monday.
Defensor said details of the settlement were being finalized.
GMA 7 laywers declined to comment if an apology from the network
will be part of the settlement.
The TV host reportedly initiated for the settlement of the libel
suit, which stemmed from an e-mail that was allegedly disseminated
by Defensor.
The e-mail allegedly contained malicious comments against Aquino.
Another pretrial hearing is scheduled on August 8 in the sala of
Judge Selma Alaras of the Makati RTC branch 60.
