Obsession with celebs gets out of hand

mmJun: I can see Boy Abunda and his media cronies and
alot of those showbiz writers obsessing on the private
lives of celebrities and they are pushing what they
think they see happening into the public's face.
What's the deal with all this false love teams,
fake marriages and false relationships in showbiz
media, Boy Abunda? You have been tagged as leading
the way for it to all other showbiz practitioners.
What they put out in media is what people read on.

SINCE the earliest days of show business, audiences have been
fascinated with the public personae and public lives of stars and
starlets.
During the so-called Golden Years of Hollywood, this fascination was
pretty much controlled by stars’ and studios’ publicists, who fed
real or concocted accounts of luminaries’ activities and statements.
After some decades, however, the thirst for realism prompted viewers
and readers to look for less sanitized and studio-approved accounts,
and some stars’ sins of commission or omission made hits of tell-all
publications.
In fact, some tattle-tale magazines embellished on the already
tawdry accounts, making them even more “deliciously” disgusting than
they already were. Stars began hitting back within libel suits, some
of which prospered.
Correspondingly, gonzo photographers or paparazzi started stalking
celebrities in a really intrusive and even potentially dangerous
way, and stars began to fight back, sometimes physically.
The ante has been upped even more in this age of cyber technology,
with some sites showing phone photos and videos of celebrities.
Where will it all end? Observers fear that it’s going to get much
worse before authorities are forced by dire events and consequences
to enforce more stringent rules to protect stars, ironically enough,
from their own avid and obsessed idolaters, and from traditional and
new media only too eager to profitably feed that obsession.
What are the root causes of this relentless and intrusive
fascination with celebrities’ perceived or invented sins? First,
there’s the trendiness factor. Stars set trends, so if you want to
be au courant, you feel you have to know the latest about these
pacesetters in terms of fashions and lifestyles.
Quixotically, some fans also develop a love-hate relationship with
their idols! They idolize them to bits, but they also find it
weirdly consoling to discover that their favorite stars have feet of
clay.
What’s going on here? Basically, fans feel that they have the power,
not just to make stars, but also to unmake them!
Perverse? You bet. The show biz scene isn’t a rose garden, it’s a
minefield of contradictory impulses and hidden motives.
There’s also the factor of wanting to feel superior—yes, even to top
stars who are supposed to be pluperfect icons of humanity—until
their nasty imperfections are gleefully exposed, for everyone to
delight in, and feel superior to!
Then, too, there’s the element of monumental envy—fans are only too
human, after all, and the star-envy they feel is huge because
celebrities are so much more gorgeous and famous and wealthy than
their idolaters are.
With envy, of course, comes the desperate wish that the star, loved
though he may otherwise be is fated to lose it all, so he’ll end up
as miserable as you and me.
How cynical can we get? Oh, very. The star-fan relationship is the
new Greek tragedy, only this time, the catharsis is never enough.
So, how do we stop obsessing over celebrities? Put everything in
true perspective, stop idolizing mere mortals like yourself, focus
instead on your plus points—and, get a life!
