To date, the BIR has filed 26 tax evasion cases against affluent and known personalities while the BOC has charged 16 respondents for smuggling diesel fuel and agricultural products. To remind the public of Operation: RATE and encourage public support through a reward system, DOF has started distributing its “reward posters” – reproduction of its newspaper advertisements offering rewards for information on acts of tax evasion – to business establishments, private and government banks. “The public should see these posted prominently in public places in the next few days,” Finance Undersecretary Emmanuel Bonoan and head of Operation: RATE said. “The reward system is built into Operation: RATE by law.
