Adding a boost to the revenue measures are the BIR's Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) and the BOC's Run After The Smugglers (RATS) programs, which were launched in March and July 2005, respectively. To date, the BIR has filed 26 tax evasion cases against affluent and known personalities while the BOC has charged 16 respondents for smuggling diesel fuel and agricultural products.

To remind the public of Operation: RATE and encourage public support through a reward system, DOF has started distributing its “reward posters” – reproduction of its newspaper advertisements offering rewards for information on acts of tax evasion – to business establishments, private and government banks. “The public should see these posted prominently in public places in the next few days,” Finance Undersecretary Emmanuel Bonoan and head of Operation: RATE said. “The reward system is built into Operation: RATE by law. Those with knowledge of acts of tax evasion can earn up to P1 million by contacting BIR’s National Investigation Division at 926-5449 or Enforcement Service at 922-4751.”
