Sheryn Regis is rightful owner of ‘Crystal Voice of Asia’ tag

"We’ve already patented it with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). Sheryn Regis is the true Crystal Voice of Asia," says Star Records Managing Director, Annabelle Regalado, to Manila Bulletin when asked to comment on claims by recording artist, Mari (who used to be under the label), that the title is hers.
According to Annabel, long-time employees of Star Records do not recall the title being bestowed on Mari at all when the latter was still with the label a few years ago. Annabelle did so as sort of a litmus test arguing, "kung talagang siya ang Crystal Voice of Asia, hindi ba dapat identified ito sa kanya?"
Further, research done by the marketing group of Star Records with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) regarding the title yielded negative results, too.
"The thing is, the title Mari claims to ‘own’ was ‘given’ to her during the time when Star Records was still under a different administration," says Annabelle. "Since there was no official turn over, we do not know anything about it."
Annabelle also said that the issue is quite suspect since it cropped at a time when Mari is also promoting an album under another label.
When asked about the issue, Sheryn Regis says, "I don’t know her personally. I just know that we both represented the country in the Voice of Asia at different times."
Then again, it’s not as if Sheryn has time to dwell on such mundane topic. Apart from promoting the release of new single "Di Ko Kaya" from her just-turned Gold sophomore album "What I Do Best," there’s her upcoming free concert at Centerstage Cinema 1, SM North EDSA.
To be held on her birthday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., the show will benefit children as she treats those from Bantay Bata, the Sagip Foundation and the Bata Foundation with novelty tunes, Christmas carols, songs from Disney films and her original hits as."
Among performing guests in the show are some from today’s Champion League and finalists of the "Little Big Star" singing contest. The Crystal Voice of Asia will also be doing a number (a medley of Lucio San Pedro’s "Ugoy Ng Duyan" and "Mama") with her two-year old daughter, Lourdes Clarett or Sweetie.
"Bata pa lang pero mahilig na talagang kumanta yang anak ko. She enjoys listening to music and singing along with my songs and those of her Tita Sarah Geronimo’s. Paborito kasi niya yung kanta ni Sarah na ‘How Could You Say You Love Me.’"
Sheryn has so much to be thankful for as she turns 25 years old. Just this year, she’s held several shows outside the country including Bahrain, Dubai, Guam, Australia and the US. These have enabled her to finance the construction of not one but two houses for her family whose roots are from Carcar, Cebu.
"I’m tireless when it comes to my job because I enjoy singing," she says. "I don’t have official days off because I want to take advantage of all the opportunities that come my way. I’m just so happy that I have never run out of shows to do since I started and that I already have bookings until next year. All these I could afford to do because my family is by my side to support me. That’s enough birthday gift for me."
Sheryn’s birthday concert is a production of Star Records and Star Records Artists Management (STRAM).
