Not so sure as what you are looking for but here is the way I get my hides ready to be tanned.. First, after skinning the hide out, I cut off all excess fat and bits of red meat which may still be attached to the hide. Second, turn the ears, eyes and lips and flesh the face with a pair or scissors or razor blade..( I do this by hand because I don't trust myself with the flesher on this delicate skin.)Third, I wash the skin,(,some will say this is not necessary but I like to get the excess blood out before it has time to set), next hang the skin up and let it drip dry for an hour. Fourth, with the flesh side of the skin turned out I apply a liberal amount of salt making sure to cover every inch. Fifth, I rehang the skin up and let it drip for 24 hours, this pulls the moisture out..( Be sure to hang over some sort of container you don't want this dripping in your floor)Sixth, after 24 hours, take the hide outside and give it a good shaking to lose as much salt as possible. Seventh, After shaking, reapply salt and hang it up it will still drip some, this is the last salting that is needed. After the hide stops dripping and starts drying, the hide will begin to get hard, ( this is what you want it to do). Be sure to keep the hide in a dry place. As long as it stays dry the hide will keep for years. When you are ready to tan the hide all you need to do is rehydrate it, then proceed with your favorite tanning procedure.
I hope this help you out some, I learned this from a man that has been doing taxidermy work for 35 years and he says that he has no problems with it. I have used this method plenty of times with no problems..

Good Luck,,, Lisa
