Hi Erin,

I used to work for a vet, and we also had a boarding kennel.

Many dogs would get sore noses from pushing them through the fences. And almost every dog that would come to board would have diarrhea for their entire stay. It is very stressful for them. We had a couple dogs that would day board with us every day and they never had a problem, but the ones who were just kenneled for a family vacation or whatever had a hard time.

Now here is my personal opinion, don't kennel your dog. Find a family member, a friend, etc, to either stay at your house or take the dog to theirs. I can't say that all kennels are the same, but having worked in an office of one, I have never boarded my dogs and never will. Most kennels are under-staffed and do not take the time to spend any quality time with the animals at all. In all the time that I worked there I never once saw the kennel staff walk a dog outside at all. And this was one of best kennels in our area, not to mention attached to a vet hospital. Go figure. That is just my two cents.

Sorry if I ranted, just a touchy subject for me. Not to say that people who board their dogs are bad or wrong. They are doing what they think is best, they just don't always know what goes on while their gone.

Good luck!
Jen
