AZ -Arrest in Animal Abuse Case Involving Wild Boars & Dogs
(12.17.04) — A Cave Creek couple are facing possible multiple charges of animal cruelty. Yavapai and Maricopa County sheriff's deputies, along with state livestock agents, served search warrants today at the Cave Creek home of James M. Curry and his wife, Jodi Marie Curry-Liesberg. The search stemmed from an investigation into something called "hog dogging." That's an event in which wild boars are released into an arena and then dogs are used to chase and attack them. The Yavapai County sheriff's office says authorities today seized 32 Russian boars, along with 12 American bull terriers and five puppies. The raid stemmed from an investigation started in October, when authorities received reports that "hog dogging" events were being held in Cordes Lakes. Authorities in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina aided in the investigation.
