The better solution is to make sure the XHTML generated with Carp will validate. Check all of your formatting tags, and take any warnings (like self-closing tags, etc) and fix them in the Carp config settings. If you post sample XHTML generated by Carp and the validation errors, we could help suggest fixes.

If you could bypass validation for XHTML, nobody would ever write compliant code, they would just exclude difficult parts. However, it may help to decide whether you want XHTML transitional 1.0, strict 1.0 or 1.1, in standard-compliant or quirks mode. Those will have an effect on validation, and may make life easier too. I would personally suggest XHTML 1.0 Standard mode, if you're having trouble validating, although your goal should be an eventual move to 1.1 Strict.
