There are a few major causes for CaRP displaying XML errors:

1) Attempts to display feeds that aren't encoded as UTF-8, ISO-8859-1 or US-ASCII. PHP's XML parser only supports those three encodings. As of a week or so ago, the commercial versions of CaRP have a transcoder script bundled with them that can convert feeds between a vast variety of encodings, enabling CaRP to process them.

2) Entering a URL in CaRP that points to something other than an XML feed. If in doubt, try loading the URL in your web browser--if it loads a web page instead of a feed, you'll need to fix the URL.

Note that the next major revision of CaRP will have a much more robust HTTP client which will report things like 404 errors (document not found) rather than trying to parse the error message page, resulting in an XML parsing error.
