It seems to be the major gripe of college students that there "isn't anything to do". I am fully aware that things/society/values etc. have made a drastic turn around in the last decade, but I must also confess that I am unclear of it's origin and when this silly transition started. It seems the economy surrounding the students (money in their pockets) is more lucrative than the past, but yet nothing to do...hmm...so it must not be totally based on monetary issues..ok. When I was in college I remember poverty at its finest hour. Taking up a beer collection which might include a high percentage of pocket lint on a Saturday night, to say the least, but yet we always seemed to have a vast agenda of "things to do" and places to be, and had an incredible time doing it, the only difference you ask? We seemed to always MAKE things to do rather than waiting for the entertainment to be delivered and spoon fed, because we would still be waiting. College should be the best time of your life! They always say, "Friends you make in college are friends for life". Most people look back on college...crack a big smile and say something like, "I had so much fun back then!". Don't think after College your ridin' the gravy train on bisquit wheels unless you have an inside tip that you are winning the lottery, it's life my friends, and harsh reality will come soon enough. So if you can't find something to do, use what the good Lord gave you and THINK!! MAKE something to do and remember, the good times are upon you, right now! Secondly, we play what is requested most, if those songs are played, that is what is being requested this is not a private party with your friends. We have to cater to what the people are wanting to party and dance to rather than to sit at the bar and listen, so I might suggest instead of sitting on your duff and griping, maybe you should get up, walk to the DJ booth and request what you want to hear! It's not that hard! We usually always stay very current and keep several thousand on preload. If you would like to put in an application for employment great, you may pick one up any night we are open. I will say that to be a DJ just because you think you are "popular" and you and your friends think that would be "cool" won't get you any job. You need real world experience in on the fly remixing, gain riding compression, networking, phasing, BPM sample matching, and sampling in general. It is also a must that you are fluent with several audio and video processing platforms as well as video editing and separation techniques. With that said, I am not even touching on lighting, and voice overs. Nomad and Dmx 512 general knowledge is a minimum. We use a 16,000 watt system that costs real money and has to be cared for in every aspect. If you fit the bill, sure come give me a break God knows I need one! I would not have a problem showing you the ropes, but if you want real experience in the business, you have to think of it as a business without bias. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

We pay for all the expenses of the website hosting, bandwidth, software, as well as the equipment to render the pictures. It's kinda like someone giving you free money, then you saying "Ehhh, it's too wrinkled". Sorry about going metaphorical, but please try to deal with the new method. To put it simply, it is flash, and it is ten times faster than the old method, and uses up much less bandwidth, thus leaving more space for more pix. To view is all automatic now. Several concerts have been tried in the past with not much luck. The Great Divide and Head East, to name a couple. To do a major concert there are many things to consider, the largest issue is money. Who is going to be responsible for the make it break it bottom line, who will be the one to invest 20-100k and be able to loose it in the event of a disaster. Then we move on to the liability insurance, then sound and lighting contractors, riders, ticket cost, promotion, trussing, OSHA regulations, permits, minimum capacity riders...I could go on and on. I'm not trying to be negative, as we were going to have David Allen Coe and Rodney Carrington at one time, and KC and the Sunshine Band another time, but one or more of these issues squashed the idea. Putting on a concert is a major league trip to a vegas slot machine with your life savings in the business world, but on the other hand a smaller name band very well could be a possibility. How, I don't know.. but, my camera was able to turn on and read the card enough to get them over to my PC. Long story short, we get pix comin from the foam party #3! I have been informed by Dr. B. Alan Sugg, President of the University of Arkansas System, that my name will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees to become the new Chancellor at UAFS. I will accept this offer and expect to begin my duties in Fort Smith at the beginning of July. The employees of UAFS will be informed today and I will meet with the Trustees on Tuesday. Since I have great respect for each one of you and the job you do, I felt that I needed to personally inform the campus of this news today. I accept this offer with very mixed emotions. For the past five years, Northwestern has been my home and my passion. Serving as president has been an honor, but it has been a true privilege to work with such a talented and dedicated group of administrators, faculty and staff. I have formed many friendships on-campus and in the community and I hope to continue these relationships for years to come. Northwestern is a special place. Janice and I will sincerely miss being a part of this campus community. I am excited about this new opportunity, but I am also excited about what lies ahead for Northwestern. During these past five years, we have all worked together to make this university a better place for students to learn and a better place for faculty to teach. We have improved our infrastructure, and the construction projects that are planned for Alva and Woodward will continue as scheduled. I am proud of the advances that have been made at all three campuses during this time and expect nothing but great things in the future. As I reflect upon the past five years, I know one thing for certain – all of Northwestern’s accomplishments are the result of the hard work and persistence of every employee. People here work hard to do the right thing, and that is what makes Northwestern a great community of learners and scholars. For the next two months, I will continue giving my best effort to serve Northwestern. There is still much work to be done. During the next few days, the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges will determine the process of selecting a new leader and will name an Acting President to take over duties on July 1. I have great confidence in the leadership abilities of our existing administration, faculty, and staff to move the University forward during this transition. I hope to visit with you sometime during the next few weeks and express my gratitude to you in person. For now, please accept my heartfelt thanks and best wishes for the future. Paul B.
