As I know Jesus as my personal Saviour I can categorically say YES, He's very real and YES He came as a man, in order to fulfill the plan of God, to redeem mankind from their evil nature. you may wonder why God would want to become flesh...well think about it for a moment....

He came as a man to find out what it's like to be you and to be me, this is why He has such mercy for us. Also God needed to have a perfect sacrifice in order to save mankind from their sin. This had to be done as God has set in place spiritual laws that He can't take away from being. One of these laws was the requirement of blood to wash away sin. The crucifixion of Jesus happened at the Passover, when the sacrificial lamb is slaughtered to cover the sins of the Jewish nation, therefore He became the Passover Lamb for all sin to be washed away. But we have to accept His sacrifice and believe He is the Son of God, Who died and rose again for our sins, so that we can receive the redemption, paid for with His blood.
