You are right about the wish-wash League.

Right from the beginning, it was clear that the rules were being bent to favour HUKS. Ban on ex-HUKS players playing for other teams, no Sunday morning games for HUKS, HUKS players not getting penalties for being third man in on a fight, etc.

In a normal league, the calendar is posted well in advance, and teams show up or forfeit. In this league, the games were decided at the last minute, and somehow HUKS and Rollsport didn't meet once. The teams with good contact with Maryniak (The Canadians) got all their games in, the teams which could beat HUKS never got a chance to (note the Kings not playing their second game with HUKS after I shut them out in our December game - yes - now I can say I shut out HUKS this season...)

Nothing will come of this league until there is a clear distinction between the organisation of this league and the HUKS organisation.

Unfortunately, since HUKS has political connections high up in Torwar, and pays only a fraction of what others pay for ice, I am afraid that all Warsaw hockey is stuck in a very shitty place. Remember that Torwar bankrupted the Warsaw Oldtimers by taking 1500 zl from us. That's big-time bullshit, but how quickly everybody forgets, eh?

But that's why I organised the Tournament with Toronto and Kaliningrad in Opole.

And did you see the shameful reception Warsaw gave the Toronto Team that night in March? They flew all the way here from the other side of the world, with 6 months advance notice, and not only did they have to pay for their own ice, but they didn't even get water in their dressing rooms, forget about souvenirs! But that doesn't stop many Warsaw players from parading in the shirts they received from the Toronto players... I was so embarassed for my guests, and I am so embarrassed by Warsaw hockey. Thank God the Opole tournament was great success, and both Toronto & Kaliningrad had a great time.

I have already given up on Hockey in Warsaw. I just want to finish the season, put a brave face on a very sad Warsaw hockey situation (Warsaw only fielding 8 players at the National Championships this year!) and move on to better things.

For instance, I am trying to organise International Hockey in Opole, Białystok, and Lublin for next year.

Do you have anything in mind for next year? You mentioned some kind of European Canadian team?

Now's the time to get ideas on the board, before everybody buzzes off to their działka's for the summer....

Richard
