IMHO, the State of Michigan requires a 15 hour code update class within 12 months after the Michigan Electrical Code is updated. The Michigan Electrical Code consist of the Part 8 Rules and NFPA 70 and sends you to the MRC (IRC with the Michigan spin) for 1 and 2 family homes. The MRC is a document that covers all aspects of construction of a 1 and 2 family home and as electricians we are not required to have any separate training even on the chapters dealing with the electrical portion. The electrical chapters in the MRC deal only with 1 and 2 family homes hence it is easier to follow and find things than in NFPA 70.
