She visibly recoils from Tarkin's tone of voice. Did he want her dead? Well, it would have made sense, wouldn't it? All she ever did was make things difficult for him.

She jumps back down from his shoulders, not feeling like she deserves the perch. She closes her eyes; this is something she needs to do. She can't just jump in that river and flow away. Not now. She can feel her Fading quicken a miliscule, though, and it scares her.

"No," she says quietly, "I didn't die. I couldn't have. Not like that, at least."

Inside, she's shaking. Sure, she had planned on eventually talking to him. Eventually. She wasn't expecting this kind of surprise, though. And that kind of resentment. But, really, why would she have expected any different? Well, it was best that she just get it over with while she could. Then maybe she could go back home to Wales. Hesitantly, she reverts back into her elfin form. She leaves her eyes closed.

"Not like that. But I am Fading, which isn't quite the same as death."
