Subject: Prevalences and incidences of phimosis

Hi Robin Stuart and all,

I'm a Portuguese researcher studying phimosis in YOUNG ADULTS and the statistics provided in your website are excellent! I just need to clear some additional doubts. As far as I could read from your review of several studies of young adults (Scholerbein, Osmonde, Saitmacher, Barkash), the prevalence of phimosis observed at a moment in large cohorts of men was 8-12%. But this should NOT be called an incidence, rather it's a prevalence.

I'm interested to know what is the expected ANNUAL INCIDENCE from this, that is, what percentage of men not having it, start to have it in a given year. I would also be interested in knowing what's the rate with which phimotic young men ask for treatment. Do they ask it immediately, 1 or 2 years after onset, or they usually stay many years without worrying and asking treatment?

Best
Joćo
