Thank you for the reply – I don’t really know the true facts as I was obviously too young and it happened over 60 years ago when antibiotics were beginning were more widely but I am not sure they would have been used on babies in the community as they had to be injected and the side effects on developing children was unknown as they were originally only used for soldiers who were wounded.

There were no paediatricians at that time and parents were given very few treatment options for children with distressing conditions. I can see from the forum that parents are still worried about the effects of foreskin problems in their children and that adults also are affected. This is a subject that is not generally discussed openly and other people writing about their experiences help. The good news is that anaesthesia and pain relief has been drastically improved since I was cut.

I have learned to tell my children everything that they need to know as they will discover it anyway and its better that they should hear it from their parents.
