The boycott is simple and focused. We can make it happen.
1) A Warning to the BCS Cabal
We need a shot across the bow to the perpetrators of the BCS. Email the sports networks about your intentions to boycott the BCS games and major bowl sponsors. Email the BCS Bowl sponsors in advance that you will not support their products for 1 month during Dec 2005 (the heart of the Christmas season) if they continue to support the BCS.
Wonder what kind of impact it will have? What if you tell FedEx that during Christmas 2005 you will be shipping through UPS? What if you tell Tostitos their chips are still in the shelf at the grocery store for your holiday party? What if you tell Nokia that you will buy a Motorola phone for family member instead of their phone? What if you tell Citibank that you will be charging your presents on Capital One or Bank of America this year? Give them advance warning about what is coming.
2) Boycott #1; BCS Bowl Sponsors in Dec 2005
Boycott the major sponsors for the BCS bowls for December 2005. Do not buy any products or Services from Nokia, Tostitos, Citibank, or FedEx. How will Nokia, Tostitos, Citibank, or FedEx, react if they lose $1,000,000 in revenue, or $5,000,000, or $10,000,000 or more? If enough people boycott the sponsors in a way that is measureable, i.e., they lose money, we win.
3) Boycott #2; The BCS Games
If your favorite team has been selected for participation there's no need to deprive your team of support. Go ahead and cheer for your team and attend if you want. But, do NOT view or attend any other BCS game other than your team's.
What impact will a 10% decline in TV viewership have on the BCS? Think sponsors want to spend big buck$ for less people watching their ads? What about a 20% decline in viewership? Is not watching a BCS games for the sake of a playoff worth it? Of course, it is.
There are millions of college football fans. If enough people boycott the current BCS games in a way that is measureable, i.e., they lose viewership and money, we win. We can make a difference.
