(My old Mac computer is having fits. I hope this one takes!)

The Times leader has been in a serious downhill spiral for nearly a decade. We thought things were going to get better when they got rid of that colossal impostor Steve Corbett a few years ago. But things got worse. (I suspect that Corbett, the accomplished martial artisan, kept his job through nothing more than physical intimidation. His writing style was abominable. He didn't have a clue).

The circulation dept. tried to snag the Scranton market and failed miserably.

They took direct control of a thriving and prosperous little newspaper, the Sunday Dispatch of Pittston, and ran it right into the ground. When the Watson's owned the Dispatch the little tab was choked with advertising, timely articles, and well-written feature essays. It sometimes ran into 50 pages. It is now an anemic 28 pages and is reportedly on life support. Therein lies a Cautionary Tale.

Their next jolly misadventure was when they attempted to distribute my excellent magazine, The Libertarian American. Again, they were in over their heads. Like Corbett, they didn't have a clue. They were putting out their own paper and the Philadelphia newspapers. Great Northern Distributors of Scranton, people who knew their craft, kept me in fine feather for a few years. They stocked my mag profusely as far as Williamsport and Binghamton. I was in hog heaven. I bought four new cars. I ate at the finest restaurants. I even thought of joining the Rotary. The money was rolling in faster than I could spend it.

It all abruptly came to an end when Great Northern's parent company, a bunch of thugs from Rochester, went belly up. They stuck everybody. They got me for about $15,000. The bank took my cars (Even my late beloved shorthair cat, Chauncey, who lived at Howard Isaac's salvage yard in Wilkes-Barre for three days, under the front seat of my Lincoln Town Car).

The TL distributed the mag for about 6 months, after which chaos began to ensue. People defected in hordes. Heads rolled. The high brass ran for cover. Shortly thereafter, I was approached by a queer little man with an umbrella, a Mr. Pipin, as I recall, while I was having coffee at Curry Donuts in Fort Fort. He told me that the TL would no longer be able to carry my paper. And that was that. They stuck me about $6000.

Rumor whispers that the Murdochs are sniffing at the crumbling Leader. And I would welcome that with opn arms. I might even get a job there.
