I think there is a tendency for the current generation to dismiss pioneers that went before them and at the same time a tendency for old-timers to dismiss the current crew. Having said that (and knowing that a newsroom is an orgamism that changes and evolves) the journalism practiced there years earlier was truly exceptional in the face of very difficult challenges. And for all of her warts, Allison played a key role in a lot of that. Unfortunately she was never very good with people but was able to rely on some strong, accomplished players working with her. Once they left, she was left to her own devices and didn't adjust accordingly. Seems some of the current crop don't really have an understanding or appreciation of some of the talent there earlier. Many of them went on to have excellent careers at some great news organizations. You mention Clark Line? He went on to the New York Times.
