LeRoy Vick passed this on to me and it looked like something that might be of interest to all:

SHIPMATES,
Maybe some of you can take advantage of this opportunity. I wish I could.
LeRoy A. Vick

SUBVETS RETURN TO SUBSCHOOL
How long has it been since you went to Basic SUBSCHOOL? What would it be like if you could return? What kinds of things are they teaching the future Submariners? How do they teach Submarine Escape if there no Diving Tower in Groton? How do they teach the Trim and Drain System, or the Hydraulic
System today?

You now have the opportunity.

On invitation from Captain Lotring (CO SUBSCHOOL) and CMCMC Mike Hurley, arrangements are being made for the second SUBVETS return to SUBSCHOOL. This is scheduled for Friday 18 May. The first one held last October was a huge success.

You don't have to be a member of SUBVETS Groton Base to attend.

It starts out with us in attendance at the Basic Submarine School Graduation which starts at 9am. It'l give us an opportunity to talk to and rub elbows with the students graduating from SUBSCHOOL who are either going out to a
boat or on to another school.

After Graduation there will be a general presentation on SUBSCHOOL Today.

After that depending on your rate, we will break up into 4 groups based on your rate/interests as follows:

TM/MM (AUXILIARYMEN)
ST/FT
Engineering
RM/ET/QM/IC

Each of the four groups will tour the following trainers at SUBSCHOOL:

DRIVE AND DIVE TRAINER
ESCAPE TRAINER
DAMAGE CONTROL TRAINER
IN RATE TRAINING BASED ON RATING GROUP.

After completion of the tours, the groups will adjourn to the home of SUBVETS Groton Base at 40 School Street for comaraderie and Sea Stories highlighted by Pizza, Soda, Chilli, and Beer.

The cost for the day is $15.00 a person. This covers lunch at the chow hall, and the food/beverages afterwards. We will also invite the SUBSCHOOL Instructors to join with us.

If you are interested in attending please contact both me and John Wynn FAERWYN@compuserve.com and let us know which group you want to be in, and then send the $15.00
(Written to U.S. SUBVETS) to John Wynn at 3 Leada Woods Road Old Saybrook, CT 06475

Dress for the day is casual. If you have a SUBVETS Vest, or hat, or boat hat/shirt etc. you are encouraged to wear that.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact John Wynn at the above addresses.
