Subject: I really enjoyed my retirement party yesterday afternoon.

The room was beautifully decorated. There was food and wine and music. About an hour into the party, they put Steve and me in 2 chairs in the middle of the room and showed a slide show with pictures of me. Then 3 people sang 2 songs for me. There were 2 guys playing guitar and one woman (who is one of my colleagues in the department) sang. One of the guys sang harmony. They were very good. Then 4 or 5 people got up and said some very nice things about me. They all talked about my sense of humor. Then I got up and said a few words. Then they gave me a gift, which was a silver necklace that had 2 owls (Rice's mascot) in a tree on one side and the dates I worked at Rice engraved on the back. It was a great party!
