Subject: Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I saw

the Oscar-nominated film The Father, starring Olivia Colman and Anthony Hopkins. It's about a woman taking care of her father who has worsening dementia. The film is shot from the father's perspective and what he sees. You don't always know if what he sees is accurate. It's very well done and the performances are excellent, but it's rough to watch, especially if you have dealt with a parent in this situation. I leave that as a bit of a warning. It took me a while to get it together after this one.

Cary Mulligan deserves to win the Oscar for this role, which she alternates between sweetness and malevolence, often in a single minute. She is a med school drop out, living only to seek revenge for the rape and death of her best friend. It's hard to describe this movie, which is a comedy and horror story AND a love story all at once.

also, Andra Day as Billie Holiday is the front runner. Hollywood LOVES a biopic.
