News of the World, with Tom Hanks, was $20 to rent. Hanks plays an ex Civil War officer who travels the west in 1870, reading newspapers to small town folks. When he finds an orphaned white girl living among native Americans, he vows to return her to her family near San Antonio. It's an interesting study of human nature, and reflects the attitudes of a defeated people in the south.
In Blackbird, Susan Sarandon is dying of ALS, and gathers her family around for one last weekend before she commits suicide. Kate Winslet and Sam Neal star. Predictable but still good. On Netflix.

I found on Amazon Prime. It's an odd little dramady starring Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving and Sarah Snook. Winslet's character comes home from working in the finest design houses in Paris after being sent away from her dreary outback town in Australia at the age of 10 for allegedly killing a boy. She wants to solve the mysteries of her past. The cast is great, the story is crazy (as are most of the characters), but I really liked it.
