Subject: Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I saw

The Little Things, a new movie simultaneously released in theaters and HBOMax. It has a promising cast---Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto. Love all three and they were as good as expected. But the serial killer crime story takes place in the early '90s (I think, there were beepers, no cell phones) and it was kind of formulaic story-wise. The leads are all male, the victims all female--mostly sex workers of course. It went for old school crime story, but just felt really outdated. I'm still glad I saw it just to see three of my favorite actors do their thing.

and loved it. It's the true story of an important archaeological find in the UK, in 1939. Cary Mulligan plays the widow who owns the property where the Sutton Hoo treasure is unearthed by archaeologist Rafe Finnes. They try to protect the area and her ownership of it from the British Museum, who wants to take over the site and claim the treasure. The widow's 10 year old son steals the show playing make-believe hero.
