Sorry Helen, I didn't mean to dismiss your halter suggestion! I just mean that whatever your preferences as far as tack go, the fundamental training plan/concepts are something you are going to need, regardless. Every type of tack variation definately has it's advantages in some way, and this one sounds intriguing. Personally I tend to just use a chain because when handling a number of different horses (not mine) who wear different halters, it is the one tool consistently available if I find I need it. I also like that I can lightly jingle the chain, without actually pulling on it, and that sound is often enough to remind the horse where his attention should be.
Marine rope is a great product though..it is so useful, and I can see it being beneficial in this capacity as well... depending on the configuration, chains getting stuck in halter rings can definately be a problem.
