Hi,
I bought a 2 yr.old gelding who is now 3, I have done alot of ground work and a little trick training! I do pony him on the trails lightly and we go for trail walks, he enjoys it very much, I have also mounted him once a week for a month, I will officially start him lightly in April. I see no harm in starting him lightly on or around his 3rd. birthday. Just keep it slow and easy, no rush.
Good luck!
