Subject: Spooky

I wanted to send out an update on my big "Spooky Friesian". Although I not yet been on his back for a ride, I know it's going to happen soon. I just stepped back, seperated my fantasy from his reality and started over with him. His big problem was his fear, so I started just spending time with him, earning his trust. Then I started getting him "despooked" by using natural horsemanship methods. I used every spooky thing I could find in the barn:lead rope, ball, hula hoops, tarps and even traffic cones which is was terrified of - but he finally walked up to it, chomped down on it and threw it. It was very funny and rewarding to see. Now I'm at a point where I can stand on the mounting block and lay on his back, patting him all over and he doesn't flinch. I need to be certain that I can stay calm on his back before we do an offical ride. Even if I do not ever get to ride him, he's a wonderful soul and I feel he's taught me so much. I'm very blessed to have him in my life.
