I used a Kodak 5.0 MP out there. The sand did sort of get to it, but not as bad as I thought. I kept dropping it and that's what probably made it crap out. I have since bought a Fuji Finepix 6.0 and it takes great pictures! Yes I did bring a laptop with me and what we did was get about 10 people together and run lines to all the computers. It cost about 150 a month for internet access. I went through Tripod to build this site. Once you get used of it, it's a snap. It's one of the easiest site builders I have ever used. Just tell him to be careful of the pictures he posts, some of them could be in violation of OPSEC. Let me know if you have any more questions.
