Its summer in gaias garden, its a hot day, folks are milling about, the sun is out, the garden is buzzing with lazy life, bees flitting from one flower to another to gather pollen, the wind is lazily blowing the petals of the flowers greating a gentley scented breeze.

Streams meander through the garden, some people are laying back with their feet in the stream reading a book or just looking up at the sky. Splashing the cool water up their ankles.

Under a huge oak tree, are some fallen logs in a circle, create a soothing space for people to come and sit and chat, under the shade of the old oak tree. They can drink freshly made lemonade and have creamy ice cream with strawberries. Cooling teas are available and all sorts of delicious fruits. Cheers whitewolf!! :P

In a spacious segment of the garden, surrounded by honeysuckle and passion flower sits a group of people meditating, the sound of windchimes in the back ground, and the gentle hum of the om can be heard.

There is a large gazebo set up with people being creative underneath, some making masks, others pressing flowers into an array of patterns,

You can find me in a small part of the garden, sitting with a journal and pen in hand, but im not writing, im just laying on the rug on the grass dreaming, lazily. I like summer in the garden. I am happy in my own space smiling and greeting people as they pass,

As the evening draws in, the bbq is started, rugs are laid out on the grass, a bonfire is lit, lanterns are alight all over the garden, creating a fairy like ambience, people play guitars and a hang drum plays quietly in the background. We all drink organic wine, or beer, watch the stars come out, chatting and sharing stories, eating food and being mellow.

This is my garden for summer, everyone gently connected together.. how do you see the garden in the summer.

reminds me of the camps my coven used to host in the essex countryside.

Meet for the weekend at dans' farm. some of us in tents, some sleeping under the stars.

we meet for a full moon or a festival. sitting around dans firepit we talk and laugh during the afternoon, talking magic, family, laughing at poor steve who cut the chilli peppers then forgot to wash the juices off his hand before finding a friendly tree to pee behind..ouch

The rest of us peeling vegetables and cutting herbs, garlic and mixing spices. Putting it all into large cauldron-like pans. We hang them over the fire to slowly simmer. Large potatoes are wrapped in foil and put on the edge of the embers.

Its late afternoon and we set up the ritual circle next to the maypole we erected last year. An altar is laid with flowers and leaves we collected from our gentle walk in the nearby wood earlier. Slowly we drift off to change into ritual robes.

Then its time.
We gather together to celebrate our rite, a lone drum begins as we dance around the circle, spiral dance - laughing as we sometimes miss a footing or accidently bump someone.
One of our guests from the heriditary coven in cambridge has brought her double headed axe. its a dance for the women only in her tradition and we spin and swing the axe above 0ur heads. My eldest daughter laughs as she swings it fast and furiously.

The rite ends and the sun is slowly sinking.
All of us are feeling very hungry and the smell of the previously prepared stews is drifting over to the circle.

Now sitting round the firepit, we talk and eagerly eat the wonderful food, sopping up the broth with hunks of crusty bread.
Someone gets their guitar out. Another brings a mandolin. some bodhran drums and a djembi begins to play.
A chant begins - 'I am the mabon, I am the child'.....
after a while some of us are up and dancing as the music turns into bluesy rock ballads.

The sun is down and the moon has risen.

soon we will fall into sleeping bags - the music and the chanting drifting off into the night.......

now this IS heaven

Beautiful :) and yes, as Heather said, tonight is Perseid meteor shower time - so let's dim the lanterns, sprawl on our backs and look up for the wonderful meteor display for that extra bit of magic!

I missed out on this all, being abroad at the time.... went to canada, had some beautiful walks through my aunt and uncles local pine forrest and often drifted away in thought of the garden.
i did silently visit you all while i was there though and now my aunt in canada is a great fan of the garden too.
i imagine the garden to be open, with a babbling brook, large rocks at the side for us to sit ( huckleberry finn like) at the edge and dangle our toes while the little sticklebacks swim by whistfully, and... if we sit still and quietly enough, the kingfisher may just pay a visit and say hello.
a few feet behind, children are playing dancing and running about laughing and carefree, some more quiet, sitting in a group making daisy chains and dressing each other with their finished creations.

there are folk milling around, doing their own thing, some meditating quietly, others dozing beneath trees with their dogs faithfully by their sides.

*** oops, my vision has been disturbed by theatre calling me up to run for an op.... i'll finish later****

tatty bye
love
sam

Love these descriptions of summer in the Garden ... sounds like a place I would love to spend time, very peaceful. I especially like the idea of a community coming together in such a lovely way, where everyone still has their own space, but where we're all connected ... awesome!
