Here's something I stumbled upon recently. You all might have read it already, but just in case you haven't...

I think the reporter got the years mixed up, b/c I'm pretty sure Dan and Jean didn't meet until '96.

Cool article, Terra. Thanks for sharing it! I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of Jean's life and history, as well as another nice account of Dan's life.

All I can say now is, "Come on, Jean - let's see a photo of the Flower Festival Queen!" {grin}

I enjoyed that article a lot too. There are some great quotes in there, and Jean's parents sound like such nice people. I really like the part about her mom selling one of her paintings to buy Jean her first guitar. It's interesting to me thinking about the various connections involving art and music, and how that guitar was an integral step along Jean's path - a path which ultimately led to finding the love that she and Dan shared. I think that's cool.

You all may have already seen the site with her mom's paintings, but if not, here's a link to one of them:

My goodness Mary! How in the world did you ever track that story down? I really enjoyed reading it.

Are you talking about the Kalaupapa story? I accessed that years ago through Jean's website whirledwydeweb.com. She has removed all but the primer from that website now. Isn't that a fascinating tale. And what a wonderful thing to do for her mother. Apparently Dan was there too but didn't get into any of the pictures.

Here is another site that is fantastic. Her family was extraordinary, as is Jean's ability to record it:
