If you step up on the tire height it will effect the gearing in the rear somewhat. How much is the truck dropped in the rear?

If you can fit it, the 295 would be the way to go on the 8 inch rim because the 315 is way to big to stuff it on to that narrow rim. Check your clearance between the front and rear part of the fender to make sure you have enough room to fit a 29.5 inch tire, some guys have had to cut a little out to allow that size tire to fit. I ran the 295's on my Sonoma (they fit with no problem but they did effect how it left the line because it had the nose faced down and it wouldn't transfer the weight).

I would try to find someone with a set that is worn out and then you could borrow them or buy them to trial fit and see how you like them.
