Hello Fellow Bird People!
We had a call this morning from a woman in Kansas with the information that the USPS is merging with Federal Express and will no longer ship live birds. We have sent an e-mail to Pet Air, a possible alternative shipper at http://www.flypets.com/ (if they can get their prices down!) Our letter follows:
"Good Morning!
I sent an e-mail several months ago when I first heard of your service. Now the US Postal Service is informing all of us 'bird nuts' that it will no longer ship birds.
There is a large and growing market in shipping live birds and hatching eggs. Check the online auctions, notably Eggbay at www.eggbay.com. This is the slower season on the auctions but even so Eggbay has over 300 bird listings now. All of us ship everything from cage birds to large fowl - including quail, pheasants, chickens, waterfowl and peafowl. We ship hatching eggs, day-old chicks, started chicks, juveniles and adult birds.
We need a reliable and inexpensive shipper. When I priced shipping birds through your service a few months ago the cost to use your service was 3 times that of the US Postal Service. Most of us are already paying more in shipping than the cost of the birds so we're used to that. However, as small operation hobbyists we cannot afford such shipping fees, but there are a lot of us out here. If you'd like I can send a list of URLs of auctions, classified ads and message boards with 'for sale' messages to give you an idea of the numbers. I couldn't begin to determine how many individual web sites also offer birds for sale.
Are you making any plans to step in and offer us an alternative? Please look over the opportunity you have here and try to help us out."

If we all make the effort to e-mail these folks just maybe they'll step up and help us out. I sent our letter to their sales address at flypetair@yahoo.com
