Subject: Wimborne

I would like to join the debate concerning the interviews with Paul Miller/Adam Batchelor on Pitchside and the comments by Richard Button, who I believe is the official PR for Wimborne Town.

Richard Button misses the point that if any detrimental remark is made against Wimborne then it is known that Paul Miller will threaten Solicitor’s letters to Pitchside and it will never be printed on the Wimborne Website, which on its own is excellent and Richard must be praised for that.

Originally, I would have welcomed Paul’s explanation of the ‘exceptional credentials’ that Warren/Batchelor had to obtain the appointment, as neither measured up to the CV’s of Keith Williams or Stuart Ritchie, the latter for a fact was prepared to sign at his interview that he would come to Wimborne whether he won the Vase or not! I would have to ask the question whether Adam joining the Board and taking over the financial responsibility of the Club have anything to do with the appointment?

Forget about being the top goal scorers and fewer goals scored against and that they won the League cup, as they only beat Alton (14), Bemerton (13), Horndean (11) and struggled against Moneyfield (7). Wimborne failed against all the top five teams, Totten/VT/Poole/Poppies/Brockenhurst taking only 3 points from 30 points and that is down to the Management, who on the pitch and particularly from the dug out have not had the expertise, experience, tactical knowledge or know-how to motivate their players to win these big games. If they had won half these matches they would have won the league. To let our best player last year, Griffiths and also Culliford/Smith depart was a big mistake, particularly as all three have been a major influence for their three clubs this season.

Paul Miller has been great for matters concerning the club, but he himself will tell you that he knows nothing about football and when he voices his opinion in the local Press & Pitchside, he does put his foot in it.

Had the current Board had the foresight to offer the vacant honorary President position to Nick O’Hara for the service/money he gave to the Club for the past ten seasons that would have kept him on board and more important his knowledge and experience with Wimborne. People easily forget the times he spent behind the bar after his day job, cutting and marking out the pitch, cleaning the dressing rooms, the list goes on and is the only Chairman that I know who PAID to see all the home and away games and purchase raffle tickets and then give his prizes back to the clubs to help them out. On a personal view it is a very sad sight to see how Wimborne has treated him this season, when all the other Wessex Clubs welcome him with open arms as they Respect him.

What ever you think about Alex Pike, his record is second to none in the Wessex League and it was his management that brought Wimborne Town into the spotlight in the non-league, apart from the 1982 team and there was no need for Paul to have a ‘dig’ at him.

The management had a squad that should have won the Wessex League this season and even with a weaker Wessex league next season, I can not see this pair winning it next season and again Wimborne who I understand can now afford to go up, I believe will not get the promotion that the fans long and want to see.
