Hi,

I have a lot of patients who have this. There can be two things going on:

1) you just dont eat enough iron and B12. What you can do is either take a supplement and try to eat for iron: meat, fish, beans, nuts and green veggies. For B12: meat fish or milk products. (probably and the diet and the supplement is best)

2) what mostly is the case is the following: some people miss an enzym to take in B12, this means that your body simply does not take in the B12 you eat, just a part of it. If this is is you need to medicate this problem. I do not know if you have been tested for this, if you are not, you should specifically ask for it. It is just a simple bloodwork test and they can tell. If this is the case you will receive either monthly or weekly shots or pills, depending on how serious it is.

You say you dont eat a lot of meat but still I would advise you to have it checked out. As you probably know, consequences can be serious if your deficit is large. So go back to your doctor, and ask about the enzym problem, dont let him leave you to go home with nothing, either make sure you get the test or have him send you to a dietician.

I hope this helps, and I wish you a lot of luck with this.
