The Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center (FTAC) at the Forestburgh Playhouse presents one of the most acclaimed musicals in Broadway history, A Chorus Line, on Tuesday July 6th for a two week run. The show is about seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book is by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and the music is composed by Marvin Hamlisch.

The original Broadway production was an unprecedented box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations, of which it won nine. In addition, A Chorus Line won the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It remains the longest running Broadway musical originally produced in the United States and the fourth longest running Broadway show of all time.

The story begins at an audition for an upcoming Broadway production where the formidable director Zach and his assistant choreographer put the desperate dancers through their paces. After the first cut, 17 dancers remain. Zach tells the remaining group that he is looking for four boys and four girls. In order to make his decision, he tells them that he wants to know more about them and asks them to introduce themselves. With hesitation, the dancers reveal their stories from early life experiences through adulthood to the end of a career.

Audiences will recognize Kevin Confoy in the role of Zach, who previously appeared in Hairspray, All Shook Up, and Annie, to name a few. New to the Forestburgh Playhouse is Danielle Kelsey in the role of Cassie, the once successful solo dancer who finds herself without a job. Kelsey is a former Rockette at RadioCityMusic Hall and has toured with Rod Stewart. Maria Francesconi is back in the role of Shelia. She is another Forestburgh favorite who starred in West Side Story and Cats. Rounding out the Equity actors is Antonio Jiminez as Paul, who is another new face to the Forestburgh stage. He has toured both nationally and internationally in West Side Story and Dora the Explorer Live! The rest of the cast is comprised of the 2010 Resident Company of actors from all over the country.

“A Chorus Lineis one of the great pieces of musical theatre,” said Larry Smiglewski, Production Stage Manager. “This talented cast of 22 brings together a dazzling production full of lively dancing and heart-felt stories, captivating to all audiences.”

The Cabaret during A Chorus Line isAnd the Oscar Goes To..., featuring Oscar-winning songs from such movies as The Wizard of Oz and Arthur to name a few and includes a fun Disney medley of hits. Call for reservations at the Box Office the night of the performance.

A Chorus Line runs from now until Sunday, July 18. There are seven shows a week: Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM, with matinees on Wednesday and Sunday. Ticket prices range from $33 to $40.
