Citizens Foundation Supports Waste-to-Energy Project in Montgomery
The Citizens Foundation recently attended a public hearing in the Town of Montgomery to support the Taylor Biomass project. This project has the potential to provide Orange County with an innovative and sustainable way to manage our solid waste while creating energy. It will provide new, well-paying jobs and will help improve our local economy. For more information about the project, visit Taylor Biomass or read our statement of support here.

Hike Orange County 2010 - Appalachian Trail at Mount Peter
Join us on August 14th for a hike of the Appalachian Trail at Mount Peter at 9:00AM. The three-hour round-trip trek is rated easy and is sure to provide fun for all. A picnic lunch at Bellvale Farms Creamery will follow the hike, which will be led by Citizens Foundation Trustee Bob Krahulik. Register now!

Annual Meeting Kicks Off Foundation's 40th Year
The Citizens Foundation will celebrate another year of working to improve the lives of Orange County residents at its Annual Meeting and Open House on Thursday, September 2nd. We'll open this year's exhibit, close out our fabulous online fundraising auction, and present the 2010 Kurt Seligmann Award to the Historical Society of the Newburgh Bay and Highlands. The Annual Meeting will kick off the 40th anniversary of the Citizens Foundation - 40 years of advocacy, policy-making, research, and implementation of new ideas and organizations. Thanks to all of our supporters and members! Be a part of our new initiatives and programs over the next 40 years!

Trees! Glorious Trees!
This year's Arts & Culture Exhibit highlights the wonders, beauty and importance of Orange County's trees. Once again, we've teamed up with SUNY Orange Cultural Affairs to put together a whole line up of events including an elementary school art contest, lectures, receptions, a book of tree collections, and artwork. We've added a new component this year - geocaching some of Orange County's most interesting trees. We'll unveil much of the exhibit at the Citizens Foundation's Annual Meeting on September 2nd but check the SUNY Orange Cultural Affairs and Citizens Foundation's website for event listings. We owe a big thanks to the Orange and Rockland Utilities Foundation, Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange for providing financial support of this project.

Run for the Trail
On October 23rd, the Citizens Foundation and Orange Pathways will hold the first annual Run for the Trail, a family-fun 5K run/walk. Put together a team or come on your own to support our organization and trails in Orange County by walking or running on the Orange County Heritage Trail, Orange County's only 12-mile paved bike/pedestrian trail. Registration is open on www.active.com or call 845-469-9459.
