The holidays will be upon us before you know it and there are many organizations in our area who will be gearing up to make sure our less fortunate neighbors will have something to help make their holidays more enjoyable. The Shawangunk Valley Ladies Auxiliary will be holding their annual Winter Penny Social on Friday November 4th at the firehouse located at 2150 Bruynswick Rd., Wallkill NY. The Women’s Fellowship of the Reformed Church of Shawangunk, 1166 Hoagerburgh Rd., is planning a Harvest Festival for Saturday October 29th starting at 4:00pm. There will be face painting, hay rides, arts and crafts, entertainment, bake sale, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts - all ending with a bonfire!

Along with the many activities and wonderful food that will be available, there will be a time for kids to collect candy during the “Trunk or Treating” event. “Trunk or Treating” is where trunks of cars or beds of trucks are decorated and the kids can go from trunk to trunk to collect wrapped candy only.

For this event the lower parking lot by the church fellowship hall will be blocked off. The Walker Valley Marching Band has announced its 2012 board members as follows: President Kevin Stevens, Vice President Regina Onesty, General Manager Tammy Stevens, Treasurer JoAnn Barnes, Secretary Samantha Johnson, Sergeant at Arms Donald Hammer and Music Director Darius Barnes. The band is available to perform at community events throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. Cornell University and the Orange County Cooperative Extension are offering the 2011 Cornell Agribusiness Strategic Marketing Conference on November 7th & 8th in Hyde Park NY. The main topic will be ‘Capitalizing on Group Action and Business Alliances to Improve Marketing Returns’. Registration is now open and if you register before October 31st you will save $$.
