FREE TREE SEEDLINGS ON SATURDAY, MAY 1ST
DISTRIBUTED IN WALLKILL & WALKER VALLEY

Free hardwood tree seedlings will be available to residents of the Town of Shawangunk. The Town’s Environmental Management Council (EMC) will distribute the seedlings on Saturday, May 1, 2010 beginning at 10:00am. Residents can pick up their free seedlings in front of the Wallkill Library, or in the hamlet of Walker Valley at Route 52 and Weed Rd.

“We have over 400 tree seedlings for people to plant—wonderful native hardwood trees from the DEC’s nursery which include sugar maple, red oak and white oak.” said EMC member Dave Haldeman. Mr. Haldeman’s 1954 John Deere tractor was in the town’s recent St. Patrick’s Day parade. An attached trailer held hundreds of white pine seedlings which were given out to the crowds.

The Shawangunk EMC began planting trees around Garrison Park two years ago and this year decided to provide free tree seedlings for planting in the town. The white pine seedlings distributed at the recent St. Patrick’s Day parade were sponsored by EMC members. The hardwood (maple and oak) seedlings which will be distributed on May 1st are sponsored by the Town of Shawangunk. For more information, contact angelasisson@gmail.com.
