Sumi-e Asian Brush Painting Workshop

Friday, Saturday and Sunday
June 25, 26, 27, 2010, 10 am - 4 pm
Held at: the Town of Mamakating Town Park Drama Building
Bloomingburg, NY



Learn the ancient art of Sumi-e Brush Painting using the "four gentlemen": Bamboo, Orchid, Plum Blossom and Chysanthemum as the basis of using hand ground ink on rice paper. The skills will help any artist, novice or advanced to improve line, form, tone values, composition, strong use of brush, wet and dry brush techniques. Advanced sumi-e students can work on landscapes, animals, or abstract work.

The Town of Mamakating Drama Building is air conditioned and has fans, three walls with windows and excellent lighting, amble parking, wheel chair accessable and in a park location. Exit 116 off of Route 17.
Doors open at 9:30 am for set up and close at 5 pm. Bring a picnic lunch. Outdoor picnic tables are available. Materials supply list available upon registration or inquiry. Most supplies available at Newburgh Art Supply 87 Liberty Street Newburgh. No supplies to be left overnight. Water, Ice tea and cookies will be available for the students.

This workshop is limited to 10 students. 4 spaces are available. Don't miss out. Open to the public - teens to seniors. Beginners to advanced artists.

Fee: $80 per day or $200 for three days plus $25.00 for Sumi-e Workbook

Instructor: Roberta Rosenthal is a professional full time artist and art educator who is a member of Oriental Brush Painting Society, American Society of Botanical Artists, Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Society of Illustrators, NY, Catskill Art Society, and Wallkill River School. Studied with Sensei Koho Yamamoto, Master Guo Liang Jui, Dogu Choegyal Rimpoche, New York Botanical Garden Botanical Art Certificate Program instructor, Fashion Institute of Technology graduate texile design degree and Art Students League. Exhibited at the Asia Society Museum, Karpeles Manuscript Library and Museum, Sullivan County Museum and New York State Museum, Albany, NY and many fine galleries and venues. Currently exhibiting at Ulster Savings Bank Stone Ridge, NY to August 14, 2010 and an up coming exhibit at the Healing Arts Gallery, Ellenville Regional Hospital August 19 - October 8, 2010 reception on August 18th 5 - 7 PM.
