Subject: My beloved Phoenix is for sale

I hope you will forgive me for posting here... sorry Peter and Carl, James et al.

Sylva Phoenix – Rebuild project

One of the most eye catching of them all: Alloy sills with black gel coated body. This car is great but needs a rebuild. Not a big job but I have other cars and other projects on the go so this one must very reluctantly go.

I have removed the engine ancillaries (i.e. starter, alternator, battery etc.) and cockpit parts and these are labeled & boxed.

The engine & gearbox are ready to lift out once the drive shaft is disconnected.

The bonnet hinges have been removed and boxed so the engine bay is accessible, with lights etc. boxed and wiring labeled.

MAIN AREAS OF REBUILD REQUIRED ARE:

Replace the block (or fit a replacement engine) due to engine mount tearing a hole in the block. Inspect and make good all internals as damage unknown.
Re-weld the broken custom made SS exhaust manifold and pipe (it is a work of art).
Some wiring upgrades would be advisable.
New front (& probably rear) wheel bearings.
Replace some of the alloy sill & floor sections (or fit the spare sills).
Fair / make good body / bonnet and spray.
Refurbish cockpit / seating.

HISTORY OF THE CAR:

Built and raced in 750 series by Ian Gray of Stuart-Taylor Motorsport, it was first registered in April 1997. The second owner (a RR engineer) bought the car in October 1998 and raced it four times up until September 2001 before he SORNed and garaged it.

I bought it in April 2005. I used it extensively between 2005 & 2009 it has been SORN’d since. Throughout my ownership, in addition to my own labour, work was carried out by either: Troy at Northampton Motorsport or Mel when he was running Raw Engineering.

The car was track tested by Mark hales in Car and Car Conversions in October 1998 edition.

The spec is as follows:

ENGINE:

Ford 1.6 CVH built by Procomp Motorsport @ 135 BHP

Twin Webber 40’s DCOE carbs with twin cable linkage.
CV27 canshaft
ISKY valve springs
Solid valve lifters
Ported and gas-flowed head
Escort Turbo crankshaft
Vandervall bearings
Lowered sump, modified oil pick up and oil cooler

GEARBOX:

Ford Cortina TranX 4 Speed, straight cut, close ratio gears. It is a wonderful box!

DIFF:

Escort Mk2 3.9:1 ratio

WHEELS:

Choice of 13” Minators (black spokes) or 13” 4 Spoke Revolution (black spokes)

SPARES / OTHER:

Spare starter motor
Spare set of sills
Alloy luggage rack for touring (clamps to rollbar)
Petty strut
+ other bits and pieces

The car is located on the Isle of Wight. I can provide photos prior to any viewing. I will refund the ferry price to a successful buyer who views. Additionally I am willing to deliver the car at my cost UK mainland as far north as Glasgow / Edinburgh and within reason to the SW or E Anglia.

£2900
