Subject: Camera systems for this years rally - anyone interested in a group buy?

Good afternoon All,

I know James is historically the man with cam and I've spoken to him to get some much needed advice about on-board video recoridng but I'd like to put forward an opportunity for a group buy if anybody is interested.
I've looked around a little for a cheaper alternative to the Goldstar solidstate kits that can be seen on the likes of the Demon Thieves website. I came across a company called 4Kam who have offered to send me an evaluation version of the RACE package:

http://www.4kam.com/onboard_camera_race_package.htm

It retails at £279.00 which includes the camera, solid state recorder (+ display), mic, rollbar/cage/body/helmet mount, power harness. it has 4GB internal memory and an expandable mini-SD slot. To give you an idea of price, the Goldstar kits retail around £475 plus p&p and require either a seperate camcorder or a solid state recorder for an additional £290:

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=GSTRC27

I don't doubt the quality of the kits will be different (although both 4Kam and Goldstar solid-state units do record at the same resolution) but if you want top quality, high-res kit I would ask James Miles to sort you out as he knows exactly what he's talking about. If you're keen for a slightly cheaper kit however, and the report from this demo unit is good then ket me know you're interested (johannes.vanmanen@gmail.com) and I will get us a savage discount.

Just to clarify, I'm in no way affiliated with this company but based on a successful evaluation, George and I will be buying one to use this year.

Thanks for reading,

Johannes (& George)
