Spike, further to talking to you. Another thought, if your newly fitted 888 tyres are supposed to last 2500 miles, you should be OK, the event is 2500 kilometres long. There should be enough rubber left to get you back to the UK. The last thing you want to do is fit another new set in Rome, just to get home, and then let them age harden over the winter until you use the lemon again.

On the Carrera, my set of super stickys on mag Minilites got left on a hotel landing somewhere (I did get them back months later). I ended up using 12 year old Advan's left over from doing an ADAC Rally to the Arctic Circle. They were down to the canvas!
